Course Learning Outcomes:
This Pattern Making course will cover the fundamentals of pattern design, including taking proper measurements, building custom slopers, and developing patterns for various garments such as skirts, pants, upper body garments, sleeves, collars, and more. Students will also learn about dart manipulation, developing style lines, and other techniques.
One of the highlights of the pattern-making class at Unity Fashion Institute is the hands-on approach to learning. You will have the opportunity to work on practical projects, applying the techniques you've learned to create custom patterns for real garments. The instructors will provide individualized feedback and guidance, helping you refine your patterns and develop a keen eye for detail.

Pattern Making
Students will learn:
- Taking proper measurements
- Building custom slopers
- How to develop patterns from slopers (blocks)
- How to develop patterns for various skirts, pants, upper body garments, sleeves, collars…and more

The class begins with an introduction to the fundamental principles of pattern making, including understanding body measurements, creating basic slopers, and understanding the relationship between different pattern pieces. You will learn how to draft patterns for various garment types, such as bodices, skirts, sleeves, and collars, and how to manipulate these basic patterns to create different styles and silhouettes.
As you progress through the course, you will learn advanced pattern-making techniques, such as creating pleats, gathers, darts, and other design elements that add shape and structure to garments. You will also explore the principles of fit and learn how to make adjustments to patterns to ensure that garments fit perfectly on the human body.
